Debate:
We had a class debate.
There were 4 different groups. They would be debating each other.
These were the groups:
Pro-Death Penalty
Anti-Death Penalty
Pro-Video Games
Anti-Video Games

Even if students didn't agree with their topic they had to defend it and convince the rest of the class toof their point of view.
Students did a great job.

Physical and Non-Physical Description Activity.
-->Students wrote a physical description of them in one paragraph. Then, using the same paper, the students wrote non-physical descriptions of them. This time, however, the students wrote with the opposite hand than they normally write with. Upon completion, the students noted the atmosphere of the room and their feelings during the second exercise (noisy, concentration lost, frustrated, etc.). Concept: When tasks are difficult for us, concentration tends to be lost. When relationships are difficult for us, many times we ignore or lose communication with the people involved. Critical thinking requires a concentrated effort to understand people and situations. That skill can be developed through practice.

We then talked about making good decisions and how critical thinking helps us make good decisions.

Students finished the Incredibles movie from last class.

Today we discussed critical thinking.
First students took the communication assessment to make sure that they have understood communication so far.

After the journal, students looked at different brain teasers. We talked about having to think outside of the box.

Self Esteem and Self-Concept 9/4

Today in class we talked about self-esteem and self-concept.

Compliments- We did an activity where we wrote on each others back. Everyone had to compliment each member of the class. You then took your compliments and wrote them in your journal. If someone wrote "you're funny" you then wrote "I'm funny" in your journal. We also read an article about 3 reasons why we need to accept compliments. Article.

We also talked about how our interactions can influence our self-esteem. Positive interactions and negative interactions can affect us. If we have a good self-esteem to start with, the negative interactions won't make our balloon pop! (Balloon activity)

Below is the powerpoint which distinguishes the difference between self-esteem and self-concept.
